Support my challenge to leave MS behind!

I’m taking part in The May 50K challenge this May to raise funds for life-changing research into multiple sclerosis!

MS strikes young people in the prime of their lives. The average age of diagnosis is only 30 years old, and there is no known cure.

Please make a donation and support my challenge to leave MS where it belongs, behind us.

Your donation will support research into the prevention, treatment and finding a cure for multiple sclerosis to change lives.

Thank you!

My Updates

parkrun (walk) # 4: and that's that!!

…aaaand that’s a wrap! 😀
Last day of the MS Challenge today; the Parkrun (walk) was a hard one, I don’t think I’ve been forgiven for yesterdays walk yet!
You’ve got until midnight tonight if you still wish to donate…right now I’d settle for a pat on the back!

Great western.

When I learned earlier this week that today was World MS Day a little plan started forming to make the day memorable. So today I (a) walked from home to Great Western, and (b) cracked 100kms for the month!
9.29kms.

Lake Wendouree daytime edition.

Had an appointment in Ballarat today so tackled Lake Wendouree again. Unsurprisingly there’s a lot more to see in the daytime…a very pretty lake!
World MS Day tomorrow; a big walk planned and hopefully a big milestone tomorrow. ☺️
6.35kms

Garden gully loop but reversed.

Did the Garden Gully loop again but in the opposite direction; I’ve found a new bastard hill to beat! The first time the climb to the highest point was short sharp climbs intersected by some level resty bits in between; the other way is one ginormous non stop climb to the top!
3.89kms.

Salvation gully Road (I beat the bugger!).

Well, I tackled the hill again and beat the bugger! 😀
Up and down and back over without stopping was a goal I had before this challenge was over and I’ve bloody gone and done it!!
Not many days to go now if you’re still considering a donation!

Dodging the weather.

I managed to dodge the wind and rain this evening to get a walk in. Not a bird or animal to be seen…they must have all been at the shops buying brollies. ☺️
I’ve now knocked over my goal of 75kms but gonna keep going…have a big one planned for Friday!

Please contribute!!

I didn’t manage a walk yesterday as I was involved in grown up social responsibility responsibilities all day.

HOWEVER…this is the last week of the Challenge and I have some unresolved goals. I am almost to my 75km goal (I should smash that later this arvo), but my goal of $1,000 raised has come to a standstill. 😕
If you were at all considering donating to a very important cause now’s the time!

Parkrun (walk) # 3

PB all day! 3rd Parkrun and kept my time under 50 minutes. ☺️
I am so proud of myself…for a bloke that was going from a computer chair in his home office to an armchair in front of the TV each day I find this remarkable, and honestly something I no longer thought I was capable of.
4.96kms.

Military bypass road.

Went across the Western Highway today for my walk. Started on the old Western Highway (remember the Hole In The Wall?) and then on to Military Bypass Road for the rest. No idea how it got that name sorry…🤷
4.41kms.

Garden gully

Another walk in my local area. Doing this challenge has reminded me how lucky I am to live in such a beautiful corner of the world… 🥰
3.79kms.

Ararat/cemetery creek.

I had an appointment in Ararat this arvo so just parked the car afterwards to just see where I ended up. The walk turned into a track along Cemetery Creek.
2.41kms.

Westgate road but the other way around with a side quest.

A routine local walk today but did it backwards with a side quest; who said you can’t teach an old dawg new tricks? 😀
3.55kms today.

Big Hill.

Working in Stawell today so tackled Big Hill. Not a long walk but the hill got the blood pumping! 2.4kms.

That bloody hill again!

Shorter walk today; tackled the blessed hill again but ran out of light to go right down to Salvation Gully Road. There’s been too many local reports of nocturnal Frankenroos and Dracupossums lately to chance my hand after dark! 2.74kms today.

Parkrun (walk) #2.

2nd Parkrun done and dusted. Weather looked inclement but we managed to dodge any rain. Was still very cold! 5kms today.

Hard hill road/long gully shallow lead historic area

Todays walk was from home to Long Gully Historic Area via Hard Hill Road. It’s a very heavily worked area with dam walls, workings and both Chinese and European (Chinese are round, European rectangular) mine shafts. Not all shafts had been capped, some were up to 5 metres deep. I think this is my new favourite walk! 4.76kms today.

The local (short loop)

I wasn’t going to do a walk today but I was sooo close to 40kms I couldn’t wait. This was the shorter loop of our local bush reserve. 1.74kms today.
EDIT: I’ve just realised I am 20 metres short of 40k’s…bugger! 😄

The Local

Did the nice walk close to home this evening…I think I’ll keep doing this one once the challenge has finished. ☺️
A few niggles on this one, might have a rest day tomorrow.
2.5k’s.

Lake Wendouree

I had to be in Ballarat at sparrowfart to drop someone off at the train. Lake Wendouree was close so I thought I’d have a go. I was surprised at the amount of people either walking or running the track at that time of day (6am)…first walk that I’ve completed that was pretty much all in the dark. Longest walk yet - 6.2kms.

Westgate Bush Reserve

Todays walk was through the Westgate Bush Reserve. Lots of little tracks going through a pretty intensive mining area from the 1800’s. I was accompanied by a big flock of Lorikeets who were very noisy! I returned via Westgate Road which is a well maintained gravel road. 3.24kms today.

Salvation Gully Road.

I walked from home to Salvation Gully Road and return today. A lovely walk but the big hill in the middle was a trial! It’s the first time during this challenge that I’ve had to stop for a breather (twice). New side quest - complete this without stopping before the Challenge ends. ☺️
4.75 kms today.

Parkrun (walk) # 1.

Completed my first Parkrun (walk) today. I’m normally a solo exercise kinda guy but thought I’d give it a go. Everyone was very friendly…I certainly got pushed along at a quick pace!
5kms today.

Ararat walk

Had time to kill while waiting for new tyres being fitted to my ute. I didn't plan on going far but the morning was so nice I just kept going. 5.85kms.

He marched right up to the top of the hill then marched back down again.

Tonight I walked a local bush track up to a ridge where there is heaps of old mine workings. Not as many birds as where I was last night, but disturbed a number of wallabies who went crashing through the scrub. 3.3kms today.
I battled a very tight calf on one leg, and Achilles on the other. Might be time for a rest day…

Todays Adventure!

I worked in Stawell today so my walk was there. Two laps of Federation Park followed by the Pleasant Creek walk and return; 2.6kms in all. A very pleasant walk, the creek is pretty much dry due to the lack of rain but still some remnant waterholes that were nice to see. And the birds! There’s something to be said for walking at dusk, the different calls were too many to count.

I've made a start!

Well I've been a bit slow to start but I'm on the board! A cheeky little 1/2k in Ballarat on Friday plus a walk through our local bush today. I'll be very interested to see how I pull up tomorrow, particularly the osteoarthritis in my feet. Anyhoo, not even close to what people with MS are going through so suck it up Princess!
