I'm walking 150km this month to leave MS behind
Please support my challenge to leave MS behind!
My name is Kate Roberts.
I am fundraising for Kiss Goodbye to MS – a national program that raises awareness of Multiple Sclerosis and also raises funds to support research for finding a cure for this debilitating disease.
I am passionate about finding a cure for MS, which affects over 25,600 Australians. In December 2013 and at the age of only 30 I was diagnosed with MS. This diagnosis turned my life upside down and is devastating for me, as well as my family.
Prior to being diagnosed, my only exposure to MS was participating in the MS Read-a-thon in primary school. I had no idea what people with MS really experience or how much their lives change. Adjusting to the diagnosis and living with this unpredictable disease is very difficult.
Currently I am on my fourth round of intensive treatment, however, this has not stopped progression of the disease. Unfortunately, I had a severe relapse just before Christmas 2018. MS has stolen a lot from me, including permanent loss of sensation in my left leg and right arm, crippling back pain, relationships and the ability to work full-time. Prior to being diagnosed, I was a super active gym manager, but can now only work two days a week while undergoing treatment. One thing MS will not take, however, is my spirit or determination to help find a cure.
While there is currently no cure for Multiple Sclerosis, this year I want to do my bit to make a difference and support the amazing medical research that continues to be done to find a cure. For this reason, I have decided to take part in ‘The May 50K’ – a major national fundraising initiative where participants pledge to walk at least 50km to raise funds. As part of my involvement I have pledged to walk 150km and also have a fund raising goal of $50,000.
To help me achieve my goal, I am seeking the support of businesses that are interested in donating to this worthwhile cause. To help realise my fundraising goal, I am seeking prize donations as well as cash donations that can be used to purchase items or vouchers that will be raffled and auctioned at my fundraising afternoon on Sunday the 26th May at The George Tavern Greenhills.
Please, if you can provide any assistance, myself and all who live with MS are VERY ready for a CURE.
Thank you to my Sponsors
