Support my challenge to leave MS behind!

I’m taking part in The May 50K challenge this May to raise funds for life-changing research into multiple sclerosis!

MS strikes young people in the prime of their lives. The average age of diagnosis is only 30 years old, and there is no known cure.

Please make a donation and support my challenge to leave MS where it belongs, behind us.

Your donation will support research into the prevention, treatment and finding a cure for multiple sclerosis to change lives.

Thank you!

MY IMPACT TO LEAVE MS BEHIND OVER 2 YEARS

My Updates

Really Finished Now!!!

It’s now official this is the end of my efforts this May50K. I finished completing 320km. This effort I gave all I could give. This has be challenging for me some days and better other days.

I wanted to share my absolute sincere thanks and appreciation to all the people that have supported me - a huge thank you to  all that have donated hard earned $$. This helps in improving lives of MS Warriors with continued research into improving my life.

This has taught me that even though I have MS that life is still achievable. It just makes it harder and with resilience and determination that things are still possible. It has also taught me how to be stronger and view life through this mindset.

Donations are still open until the end of June. Please continue to share my post. Once again heartfelt thanks from one tired MS Warrior.

Finally finished

Wow!!!! I finally finished. I cannot do any more. Finally finished with 300km and doubled my initial goal of 150km.

Thank you for everyone’s support through either motivation, emotional support or with the important $$ for MS research.

World ms day

A huge thank you for all my supporters who have joined me on this journey. The words of support and $$$ donations mean the world to me. As a MS warrior this has helped fuel me to achieve greatness beyond what I thought was possible.

I initially created a goal that was thought unachievable. I am currently on my bike pumping out the kms - I will stay on the bike until I reach 300kms. This is my determination!!! i am determined to double my goal and reach the momentous 300km.

This was not possible without my team that are behind me giving me words of encouragement, support to help drive me towards excellence.

I am a humble man but on such an important day - World MS Day this means even more to me. I am hoping that this can help in furthering research to finding a cure for MS in my lifetime

Day 26 -29

I had a difficult 3 or 4 days that affected my mobility and getting my kms done. I think this is due to my MS. How stress can affect the body is real. MS is totally unpredictable!!!

I have 11.5km remaining to attempt to reach a massive and outstanding 300km. I am hoping to finish on 300 km on World MS Day. I think this would be perfect way to leave MS behind and show the world that with dedication, determination and utter grit how much warriors with MS can achieve in this world.

I am very close to achieving my fundraising goal. It is less than $100. If you can donate this would be awesome!!!

Day 24 and 25

Smashing it!!!! I have reached 250km. The final 6 days and hoping to reach 300km.

Thank you for all your support and ongoing encouragement

Day 18-23

The final week and trying my best to get as many kms as possible. Finally got 216km - this is the best I have ever achieved on the May50k over the past 3 years. This was achieved by doing 2 sessions on the bike. Totally out of character but very surprised and pleased !!!

There is still 1 week left - I think it would be highly impossible to get to 300km. I am still very proud of my achievements to this date.

Nearly reached my target fundraising goal currently raised $1,179

I still need more donations. Share and donate if can. I want more research so that I can make all the difference I can for me and fellow warriors.

Day 17

A momentous day!!!! Finally reached my goal of 150km. I kept pushing and never giving up to move toward the finish line. Like MS it never gives you a break but I am determined to make things better. I may have been gifted this condition - it does not mean that I have to let it control me.

Even though there are still 2 weeks remaining I will keep going. I would love more donations - please continue to share and donate where you can to help with putting MS behind me and other warriors.

Days 12 - 16

It has been a difficult 5 days trying to keep going with the kms. Some days have been harder to move and it has been a bit on and off. I find that my MS goes in waves and is totally unpredicatable!!!

34.3 km added to my total to make it now a total of 134.3km. This means I have an additional 15.7 km to reach my goal of 150k

I am getting closer to my fundraising goal finally hit the $900 mark. Keep sharing and donating if possible.

Day 11

Smashed 100km - it wasn’t easy but you have to keep going. MS doesn’t go away and never will my determination!!!

I have 50 kms to go to meet my target of 150 km. I know I can do this and reach my goal. Please share and donate where you can to help in finding a cure for this condition. Let’s find a cure for MS that I never asked for in the first place!!

Day 10

It has been an eventful day - finally reached 50% of my target. Some days with MS I can do more and others I can hardly move. The unpredictability of MS is crazy!!!

All I need is more donations to add to how I am smashing this event. Share where you can and donate if possible.

Day 9

What a busy and productive day. Started with Physio. Even though I didn’t want to but it was worth it.

Managed to come back home and cycle for 10kms. I could not believe it!!! Had a rest during the day. Finished with walking another 5kms in the afternoon.

What an eventful day with racking up 15km in one day.

Day 7 & 8

The end of the week was a bit harder. Work has been busy and my lethargy has been a bit more intense. Still managed to walk when I could manage it.

At the end of the first week managed 42 km. By the end of today - Day 8 reached roughly 46km.

I have learnt that you need to be kind to yourself and not to push it. I have learnt by having MS to understand your body and when to rest.

Looks like now is the time to be kind and rest Shayne!!! I would have liked to reach 50km today but …….. you are still a warrior.

If you can share and donate even if it is a small donation. Any support you can offer means so much to me.

Day 4

What a massive day!!! Started the day since it is Labour Day to join my fellow teacher in a union march. This was a huge drop me with all the uneven roads - thanks Brisbane City Council. Fix the damn roads!!!

Started at Spring Hill and walked to the RNA Showgrounds - known as the EKKA. Finally made it but my fatigue was definitely at 150%. Thanks the QTU organised food and drinks in the shade. My heat regulation was 100% out of balance. I totally need the fuel for my body and shade.

After 6 kms I am totally spent and glad to be heading home. This way I can relax and recharge.

Thanks for everyone on the march for joining me and adding to my kms for MS Qld and the May 50km

Day 2 and 3

It has been crazy over the past 2 days. MS is very unpredictable - some days are better than others. Warriors with MS will totally understand.

Day 2 managed very well / even managed to do some cycling. Managed a total of 10 km on Day 2.

Today not so much. My lethargy was more intense and harder to walk than Day 2. Slightly less with only doing 6km. Over all across the two days managed roughly 16 km.

Keep donating if you can or share my post. Roughly sitting at 21 km of the 150 km by the end of Day 3.

Shayne

Day 1

Smashed 6km on Day 1. It has been a mammoth day of keeping going for this important cause.

Thanks for the additional donations received today. It was a great day!!!! Keeping strong and being a true warrior.

Please share my page if you can to spread the word and the important work being completed for fellow warriors for important funds for MS research.

The journey begins!!!!

A huge thank you to all my supporters and the generous people that have donated. Amazing!!!!

Tomorrow marks the official start and I am excited and nervous how it all goes. This battle is personal and is more about me meeting a challenge and see how my body can manage this challenge. It is also about doing something worthwhile and to help in limiting my progression.

Once again thank you for everyone’s involvement in this journey with me and other warriors out there who live this life with MS. My hopes are that this helps with continued research and it helps MS Warriors like myself.

Let’s smash this month of May!
Love Shayne

My journey

This May, I’m committing to 150 kilometres for a reason that’s deeply personal. This is my third year doing this personal challenge. This is after years of physical challenges and finally understanding that “I have MS!!!”. In the beginning this was hard for me to acknowledge and accept. However now I know I am a survivor and a warrior.

After being diagnosed with MS, I’ve had to rethink what progress looks like. Some days are strong, others are slower—but every step forward matters. This challenge isn’t about speed or perfection; it’s about consistency, resilience, and showing up for myself.

Each kilometre is a reminder that I’m still capable, still moving, and more than my diagnosis. By sharing this, I also hope to raise awareness of MS and what living with it can look like.

150 kilometres, one step at a time—on my terms.
