MEET Sarah and Danny

On the 25th of May 2025, the Newcastle community came together for an inspiring day of action, solidarity, and generosity, as local resident Danny led a massive fundraising event to support his close friend Sarah, who has been living with multiple sclerosis for the past 16 years.

Sarah was diagnosed with MS at age 19 and remained stable until a difficult relapse in 2024. The sudden turn in her health deeply impacted her, but it also inspired a remarkable act of kindness and determination from her longtime friend.

When Danny asked how he could help, Sarah jokingly replied, “Find a cure.” That comment sparked something bigger than either of them imagined.

Determined to make a real difference, Danny signed up to The May 50K and began organising a big community event to raise funds for MS research.

As the main part of the event, Danny ran 50km through Newcastle – all in one go!

With a strong backing from the local community, the event was filled with energy, support, and purpose. Newcastle locals helped support the event by walking or running alongside Danny, celebrating at the Queens Warf Hotel afterwards, or donating to help reach the fundraising goal.

“I never expected Danny to take my offhand comment so seriously,” said Sarah. “But I’m so moved by the way he’s rallying the community, not just for me, but for everyone living with MS.”

In the end Danny raised an incredible $26,078 for The May 50K, supporting vital research and services for those affected by MS.
