MEET MARIANNE

Meet the wonderful Marianne who has been living with MS for 35 years and dedicated her life towards helping and inspiring others.

Having been a nurse for 45-years, Marianne was recognised for her incredible work in improving rural healthcare and was made a Member of the Order of Australia (AM) in 2013. But retirement did not stop her from continuing to help her community, this time with volunteering at the MS Plus Peer Support.

Marianne continues to inspire and support other people living with MS as she facilitates MS Plus Peer Support groups and takes part in challenges such as The May 50K. For all her amazing achievements in volunteering, Marianne was celebrated as the MS Australia Advocacy Award for 2024.

This MS Warrior has experienced numbness, back pain, foot drop, loss of balance, reduced mobility and fatigue over her years living with MS. But nothing can stop her when The May 50K rolls around!

Back for her 4th year, Marianne is aiming to walk 750KM in 2025!

It’s The May 50K community that keeps Marianne motivated. Marianne is a bit of a celebrity in our Facebook group. You’ll find her in there showing LOADS of love and support to the community.

“To be part of this MS Community is so empowering. It makes me do the best I possibly can do even on a down day. The community is so supportive that you want to achieve your best no matter how you feel.”

To her fellow The May 50K participants, Marianne has these words of encouragement!

“It doesn’t matter whether you do 50k or 100k, every one of you is an MS champion – THANK YOU!”
