Sunset run

Sunset run from home to water front at Banksia Beach.

Sitting down on the job!

MS legs struggling this afternoon so clocked up 5km in the kayak. So grateful for the special hand and wrist adaptations on my paddle as the MS affects my hands too and I had to give it up for several years. With these adaptations I was able to get back on the water. Kayaking gives me such a sense of freedom when I’m stuck in the wheelchair.

Morning walk/run

Getting more klm in along Bribie foreshore

Celebrating karen’s birthday

Thus morning adding some more klm from all the team at parkrun SSKOOPA Bribie island

Morning walk/run

My injury is only allowing walking and short run this week. hopefully a bit more running next week.

Why i’m doing this?

Mainly because I have MS, I have friends with MS and I have lost a couple of friends with MS. I know only too well how this disease can affect us and see first hand how it gets worse in spite of treatments. There is no cure, thanks to research treatments have improved but they all have bad side effects. Research now may not help me but it will hopefully help others in the future and maybe one day they will find a cure or means to prevent it. I personally take part in MS research, donate to MS research and hope by doing the May 50 to raise awareness as well as funds. My MS story has been one of slow steady decline over 30+ years. in 2021 I had 3 major flares, putting me in hospital for a month at a time. I went from being an active person to someone in a wheelchair, no movement in my left leg and limited use of right leg and both hands, I had spasms, pain and other issues. I had to give up my job, my hobbies and completely change my life - devastating. However I have been lucky, thanks to an amazing physio and an unbelievable amount of continuous hard work I can now get myself moving. Most days I can walk and even run at least part of the time. My wonderfully supportive friends and I have committed to walking or running 150kms each during May. As I don’t know how I will be one moment to the next I will walk and run as much as I can, swim when I can’t walk and push myself in my wheelchair if I need to. Thank you for reading this and for your support whether you are able to donate or not. Karen

Support our challenge to leave MS behind!

We are taking part in The May 50K challenge this May to raise funds for life-changing research into multiple sclerosis!

MS strikes young people in the prime of their lives. The average age of diagnosis is only 30 years old, and there is no known cure.

Please make a donation and support our challenge to leave MS where it belongs, behind us.

Your donation will support research into the prevention, treatment and finding a cure for multiple sclerosis to change lives.

Thank you!
