Support my challenge to leave MS behind!

Please see Rachels story in the blog post below....

I’m taking part in The May 50K challenge this May to raise funds for life-changing research into multiple sclerosis!

MS strikes young people in the prime of their lives. The average age of diagnosis is only 30 years old, and there is no known cure.

Please make a donation and support my challenge to leave MS where it belongs, behind us.

Your donation will support research into the prevention, treatment and finding a cure for multiple sclerosis to change lives.

Thank you!

Rachel's MS Story

On the 27th of March 2022, I got the call that no sister wants to receive from their sister to say they had been taken to hospital as they had lost feeling in their legs. My little sister whom I am supposed to protect had been told by doctors she may have Multiple sclerosis, a chronic illness that affects the central nervous system and there was nothing I could do to stop it.
If you don't quite understand this illness, the easiest way to explain it is the immune system of the body attacks the myelin which is a layer that protects nerve cells. Think of an electrical cord with the myelin being the outside of the cord protecting those wires that run electricity into something. When the myelin (in the brain or spine) gets damaged it makes the nerves become exposed and scarred resulting in various signals being interrupted. This can cause a range of symptoms from extreme fatigue to loss of balance or coordination and many other debilitating symptoms.
Over the past three years after finally getting a diagnosis (I believe you need two lesions to occur over a period of time before being diagnosed), and one lesion occurring on Rachels spine and one on her brain, she has commenced treatment which is a monthly infusion.
My sister is an incredible person, and she has taken this diagnosis like a champion!! We were all shocked and very sad to begin with, but she has been so positive and gracious throughout her journey, and I am honestly so proud of her. Most people wouldn't look at Rach and think she has anything going on with her health, but it is a hidden illness and affects her everyday even if she doesn't let this show, and I would like to help raise money so that this illness can be more widely understood with more research, treatments and better outcomes so this is why I am asking you all to support 50k in May and to donate a little to a good cause. It is tax deductible and with MS affecting more and more people it is a vital bit of help to support those who experience this scary illness. Thank you to everyone who is willing to donate to this cause.
